Trimming
How we do it.
Trimming is most of what we do. Live oaks on the coast grow wide and low, and sooner or later the limbs are resting on the roof, scraping the truck in the driveway or hanging over the neighbor's yard. Mesquites throw long limbs in every direction. Pecans drop dead wood after every dry spell.
A good trim takes out the dead and crossing limbs, lifts the canopy off the house and the drive, and leaves the tree looking like a tree, not a stick. Then the crew rakes and chips everything they cut, down to the small branches.
We do this work in Portland, Taft, Gregory, Sinton, Odem, Calallen, Ingleside, Aransas Pass, Woodsboro, Corpus Christi, plus Refugio. Free estimates everywhere we go.

Questions
Answers before you call.
How often should live oaks be trimmed?
It depends on the tree and how close it is to the house. Plenty of customers have us back every couple of years to keep limbs off the roof. We'll tell you honestly if a tree doesn't need anything yet.
Do you trim palm trees too?
Yes. Palms have their own page, but they're part of the same visit if you have both.
Will you clean up the leaves and small branches?
Yes. The cleanup is part of the price. Customers tell us they can't tell we were there except for how the trees look.
When is the best time to trim live oaks?
Texas A&M Forest Service recommends avoiding pruning oaks from February through June, when the beetles that spread oak wilt are most active, and painting fresh oak wounds year-round. Our blog post on oak trimming has more.
Will trimming hurt my tree?
Not when it's done right. Taking out dead wood and lifting limbs off the roof is good for the tree. What hurts trees is topping and stripping out too much of the canopy at once.
Can you trim limbs hanging over from my neighbor's yard?
Usually, yes, up to the property line. It's best to let your neighbor know first, and we'll keep the cleanup on both sides.
Do you trim for clearance over roofs and driveways?
Yes. Lifting limbs off the roof, the driveway, the street and the sidewalk is one of the most common jobs we do.
