Corpus Christi is the biggest city in the Coastal Bend, and it's an easy trip for us: down US 181 and over the Harbor Bridge from Portland. The yards run from older neighborhoods full of mature live oaks to newer subdivisions where the trees planted with the houses are finally big enough to need real work.

The bay sets the rules here the same way it does across the water. Wind off the bay finds the heavy side of a live oak, salt air browns the palms after a blow, and the trees that fail in a storm are usually the ones already carrying dead wood. Thinning, dead wood out and limbs lifted off the roof before storm season is most of the job.

When is the best time to trim live oaks in Corpus Christi?

Outside of February through June if you can. Texas A&M Forest Service recommends avoiding oak pruning in those months, when the beetles that spread oak wilt are active. A limb that's broken or hanging over the house is the exception and comes off right away.
