Stumps

How we do it.

A stump left in the yard gets in the way of the mower, sends up new shoots and slowly rots into a soft spot. Grinding takes it down below the grass so you can fill it, seed it or lay sod over it.

We bring the grinder on the trailer, work the stump down along with the big surface roots around it, and handle the grindings the way you want them handled.

We do this work in Portland, Taft, Gregory, Sinton, Odem, Calallen, Ingleside, Aransas Pass, Woodsboro, Corpus Christi, plus Refugio. Free estimates everywhere we go.

Questions

Answers before you call.

Can you grind just the stump if someone else removed the tree?

Yes. We grind stumps on their own all the time, including ones left from earlier removals.

How deep do you grind?

Below the grass line, deep enough to fill and plant over. If you need it deeper for a fence post or a slab, tell us on the estimate.

What happens to the grindings?

We can rake them back into the hole or haul them off. Most people keep a little to settle into the hole.

Stump grinding or stump removal: what's the difference?

Grinding chews the stump down below the grass and leaves the deep roots to break down in place. Full removal pulls the root ball out of the ground, which is a bigger job. Most yards only need grinding. Our blog has a longer answer.

Can you grind stumps in a fenced backyard?

Usually, yes. Our tracked stump grinders are built for backyard jobs. Measure your narrowest gate and tell us on the estimate.

Will the stump grow back after grinding?

Some trees send up a few shoots from the old roots for a while. Mowing over them usually ends it. Ask us if you see a lot of sprouting.

Do you grind stumps someone else left?

Yes. Old stumps from past removals are a regular job for us.
